Sunderland offer Spurs target Jones improved contract

Sunderland are ready to hand Kenwyne Jones a new contract to keep him away from Tottenham.

The Daily Mail says Tottenham are ready to trigger a clause in the highly rated Trinidad & Tobago striker's contract by bidding £6million, and will also throw in £16.5m signing Darren Bent as bait.

Sunderland have held emergency talks with Jones and are ready to hand him a new deal worth £50,000 a week amid fears he will be tempted to move to London by Tottenham's high-profile pursuit.
