Sunderland new boy Rodwell urges Man City caution

Jack Rodwell has urged talented English players to opt against signing for Manchester City at a young age.

The 23-year old midfielder recently joined Sunderland in a £10million deal following an unsuccessful two-year spell at the Etihad Stadium and has urged caution regarding local youth players heading to English champions City too early.

"I would probably say don't sign now, I'd say get as much football as you can," said Rodwell who joined City on a five-year deal from Everton in the summer of 2012.

"The first thing I'd ask is, 'how good are you?' You just never know - you could go there, do really well and be winning league titles and everything.

"But just because you're English and young it doesn't mean you're not going to play for Manchester City.

"I would just say weigh up your options and ask yourself if you want to be playing regularly."
