The Mirror says Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is ready to join the race for Barnsley right back Stones and make a £2 million bid.

O'Neill has stepped into the hunt after the Oakwell club rejected an offer from Fulham for the England youth defender who is also on Wigan Athletic's wish list.

Chelsea and Everton have been previously linked with the England Under-19 starlet.
