Sunderland misfit Cabral fails to impress Genoa

Sunderland midfielder Cabral could be set to stay with the Black Cats as Serie A side Genoa reluctant to sign him on a permanent basis. The 25 year old was one of the biggest flops among the Black Cats' spending spree last summer after making just two first-team appearances following his Bosman arrival from Swiss side Basel.

After failing to impress whilst on loan with Genoa his agent is not confident of another deal with the Rossoblu going through.

"I don't know whether Genoa will take up the option on his loan, but I don't think so," Walter Fernandez told the Sunderland Echo.

"I would be surprised, although I've not heard anything from them.

"It is normal that he will go back to Sunderland for the start of pre-season."

"I am sure there is a lot of interest from elsewhere," he added.

"For Cabral, his dream is to play in England.

"It was always his first-choice (last summer) but his first six months at Sunderland were obviously very, very disappointing."
