Paddy McNair has revealed what he said to Jose Mourinho when the Portuguese arrived at Manchester United.

The 21-year-old midfielder caught wind of the fact that Mourinho wanted to loan him out last summer so confronted his new boss to tell him he wanted out.

McNair was eventually sold to Sunderland, along with Donald Love, for £5.5million.

He told the BBC: "He wanted me to go on loan and I went in to see Jose and just said 'look, if you don't let me go on a permanent, I'm just going to stay here'.

"That's how strongly I thought about it. At the time, it's what I wanted so I've got no regrets."
