Sunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini has paid tribute to departing Italy coach Antonio Conte.

Conte now leaves the job for Chelsea.

"I hope the people remember this group, because we gave everything, our heart and soul," Giaccherini told Sky Sport Italia.

“It is only right that this Nazionale is celebrated. When it comes to penalties, unfortunately anyone can get it wrong. It's always 50-50 in those circumstances."

Conte now moves on to Chelsea and Giampiero Ventura will take over the Azzurri bench.

“We are losing a champion, a man who created a war machine of a side. We'll see what happens next."
