Sunderland have lodged a bid for Tottenham striker Darren Bent, it has been revealed.

The Sunday Sun says Bent joined Tottenham a year ago but has failed to impress new boss Juande Ramos. Spurs would hope to recoup most of the £16m they paid Charlton for the 24-year-old, meaning any fee would easily top the £9m Sunderland paid Hearts for Craig Gordon.
