Sunderland make illegal bid for West Ham's Ba

West Ham United have reported Sunderland for allegedly making an illegal approach for striker Demba Ba.

Sky Sports News have reported that the Black Cats have taken their interest too far but withdrew and alleged offers after the Hammers complained to the Premier League.

It seems clear that Ba, who scored seven league goals in 12 appearances at Upton Park this season, will depart the East London club after they were relegated and along with Sunderland has also attracted interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

But the Black Cats have denied any wrongdoing.

"Sunderland AFC is fully aware of the Premier League regulations pertaining to player recruitment," a spokesman said.

"If we are interested in any player currently under contract with another club, we will speak directly to that club, in line with the regulations."
