Sunderland lodge appeal for Sessegnon red card

Sunderland have appealed the red card shown to Stephane Sessegnon on Monday night.

The Benin midfielder was sent off with around 20 minutes remaining of the 6-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park for an apparent stamp on Yacouba Sylla.

But the Black Cats felt there was nothing in it and have decided to contest the three-match ban that comes with an automatic red card.

Sessegnon, who could miss Sunderland's remaining three fixtures if the appeal is dismissed, will have his case heard by an independent regulatory commission on Wednesday afternoon.
