Sunderland loanee Manquillo happy with ex-Everton boss after subpar Liverpool spell

Sunderland right-back Javier Manquillo has revealed that David Moyes convinced him to make a return to England this summer.

Manquillo endured a difficult loan spell at Liverpool from Atletico Madrid a couple of years ago but following a positive stint at Marseille last season, the Spaniard has returned to England once again on a season-long loan with Sunderland.

The 22-year-old has recently been speaking about his move to the Stadium of Light and has explained that former Everton boss David Moyes played a crucial role in his decision to join the Wearside outfit.

Manquillo was quoted saying by the Daily Mirror: "I played 42 games last season at the highest level.

"That has given me a lot of experience I unfortunately did not get at Liverpool. Of course I am a more mature player than I was there.

"There were no nerves at coming back to England. The major difference was the manager convinced me to come. He made me feel wanted.

"I did not follow his time in Spain too closely. But he is one of the great managers in the league — especially after what he did at Everton. He is a great manager."
