Sunderland keeper Ward keen on loan

Third-choice Sunderland goalkeeper Darren Ward is interested in a loan deal although he is keen to remain with the Black Cats.

The 34-year old wants to get back some form and confidence at another club before making a bid to be number one at the Stadium of Light and win a new contract.

"A loan deal might be an option for - who knows," Ward told the Chronicle.

"There's always that opportunity.

"There are always other clubs who suffer injuries or suspensions and they might come knocking.

"We are getting to an important stage of the season whether for promotion, relegation or the play-offs.

"It would certainly help from my point of view if there was a chance to go out on loan.

"I haven't really pursued it just yet because I have only just got back fit, but if something came up then I'd certainly consider it.

"I'm out of contract in the summer and that's why it's vitally important that I get games to try and stay in the shake-up here."
