Sunderland keeper Pickford happy parents missed Spurs thrashing

Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was happy his parents missed their 4-1 defeat at Tottenham.

Spurs might have scored more had keeper Pickford, making his Premier League debut, not performed so well for Sam Allardyce's strugglers.

"I only found out on the morning so my parents couldn't come down," said the 21-year-old.

"Maybe it was good I didn't get told until the morning. I got a normal night's sleep.

"To concede four doesn't look great but I made some decent saves and I felt my all round game was good.

"If I look at the goals one was a pen, one was a deflection, and the first was one of those you can't help sometimes.

"Joe Hart's someone I aspire to be. The way he has come through the ranks and been England's No. 1, that's my aim.

"I have played for England at every level so far and I want to keep going myself."
