Sunderland keeper Mignolet: Belgium stars won't get big-headed

Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is confident the current Belgium team won't allow the plaudits coming their way go to their heads.

Mignolet knows the present Red Devils need to make their mark in a major tournament if they are to rank alongside that 1986 side.

Mignolet told the Sunday Sun: "All of a sudden, Belgian football is fashionable!

"I don't know why suddenly we have a good selection of players for the national team, but hopefully we can keep that going as long as we can, because things can turn really quickly.

"Everyone keeps saying this is the best Belgian squad for years, but in 1986, the team reached the semi-finals of the World Cup.

"Considering the talent and where the players are based, it is the best squad, but we have to match their efforts to be classed in the same way.

"It's only a good thing for us that the players are in big teams - Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea. It gives us extra confidence and experience when you have to play the likes of Serbia and Croatia away (in the current World Cup qualifying campaign), it can only help us."
