Sunderland keep fingers crossed regarding Brown injury

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill says he is retaining hope in regards to Wes Brown's injury.

The 32-year old defender suffered a knee injury in his side's 3-2 win over Groningen in the Peace Cup on the weekend with test results today set to show how significant the damage is.

"He will be assessed today. He is doing some scans and I'm hoping that the news is going to be okay," O'Neill said.

"But his knee is really swollen."
