Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is preparing an £8 million bid for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.
The Daily Mail says Bruce may even be ready to sacrifice record signing Asamoah Gyan as part of a deal that would cost Spurs £5m.
. Bruce has contacted Spurs about Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch.
But he is wary of the club after wrangling over Darren Bent's move north two years ago.
