Sunderland to host Chelsea in Capital One Cup quarter-finals

Sunderland have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Southampton on Wednesday night.

The Black Cats will now host Chelsea in the next phase after scoring twice in the second half prior to a late goal gave the Saints hope.

Phil Bardsley stabbed home a rebound from Jozy Altidore's initial effort just before the hour-mark before Seb Larsson put Sunderland in pole position by firing home in the 86th minute.

Maya Yoshida pulled one back for Southampton with a header from close range two minutes later but the damage had already done by Gus Poyet's side who will now get set for the final eight visit of the Blues in the week commencing December 16.
