Sunderland favourite Alex Rae is backing Alex McLeish for the manager's job.
Former Aston Villa and Rangers boss McLeish has made it clear he'd jump at the job.
"I know Sunderland are taking their time over their next appointment and I think that's only right," Rae told the Sunderland Echo.
"But I hope they are looking at Alex McLeish because, for me, he's an outstanding manager who has a lot to offer and the great thing for Sunderland is that he's available at the moment."
