Sunderland hero Arca: Scocco should've fought for stay

Sunderland hero Julio Arca is disappointed for Nacho Scocco over his failure to make it on Wearside.

Scocco has returned to Newell's Old Boys in recent days.

"I am surprised he has left so soon," Arca told the Evening Chronicle.

"I thought Scocco could be a good signing for Sunderland when he joined, because I know he did very well and scored a lot of goals for Newell's in the past. He has played for the national team and he is known for scoring spectacular goals back home and I was looking forward to seeing him play in England, which can be the chance of a lifetime for a South American player who wants to make his mark.

"I know it can be difficult to adapt to a different style of football, but six months is not long enough to make the adjustment.

"If he was determined to go it makes sense for Sunderland to sell him - there is no point trying to keep a player if he wants to leave.

"I suppose selling him to Newell's - even at a loss - is better than having an unhappy player on your hands."
