Sunderland defender Paulo da Silva is understood to have travelled to Spain to discuss a move with Real Zaragoza after struggling to get a game at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats have given permission to the 30-year-old Paraguay international to open negotiations, according to PA Sport.
Da Silva, who has also attracted interest from Mexican side Cruz Azul, has made only one Barclays Premier League appearance this season, starting the 1-0 defeat at West Brom on August 21.
He arrived in England from another Mexican club, Toluca, in July 2009 and made 21 appearances in his first season.
The player was a key figure in Paraguay's march to the World Cup quarter-finals in South Africa last summer but has failed to make the grade on Wearside.
