Sunderland fullback Phil Bardsley was happy to face Manchester United yesterday.

United won 1-0 on the day.

Bardsley told SAFC TV: "It's always nice to play against my former team and I enjoyed seeing some old faces.

"It's another game under the belt, too. One more and then it's time for a break!"

Bardsley also admitted he was delighted with the reception the team received when they lapped the pitch at the full-time whistle.

"The home fans are tremendous," he explained. "They know what they want from their players and if you give 100% then you get a reception like we did.

"We try to give our all every time we step over the chalk."
