Sunderland fullback Bardsley hails Westwood influence in Villa draw

Sunderland fullback Phil Bardsley was pleased with their point earned against Aston Villa.

Bardsley reserved praise for substitute goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, who was handed his Barclays Premier League debut in the second half following an injury to Simon Mignolet.

The Republic of Ireland international pulled off a vital save with his legs to deny Darren Bent as Sunderland claimed a point.

"Keiren's save to deny Darren was world-class," Bardsley told safc.com.

"It's tough to change your keeper midway through a game but we did well.

"The injury to Simon is a real disappointment for him because he's been in really good form.

"Hopefully he'll recover well and get back as soon as possible."
