Sunderland forced to delay Mensah transfer talks due to ash crisis

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce admits talks over John Mensah's future have been put back another week.

The 27-year-old Ghana international's representatives were due to meet club officials this week for discussions but were prevented from doing so by the disruption to air travel caused by the volcanic ash cloud.

Manager Steve Bruce said: "It was supposed to be this week, but with the volcano, it's been put back a week."

Mensah, who is currently on loan to the Black Cats from Ligue 1 side Lyon, has been a big hit on Wearside this season, but has been severely hampered by a succession of injuries linked to a back problem.

That means Sunderland are unlikely to seek a permanent move for a player who has three years remaining on his current contract, but they would be more than interested in another loan deal.
