Sunderland fear for crocked Scotland striker Fletcher

Sunderland are hoping star striker Steven Fletcher is not sidelined for the remainder of the season.

The 25-year old required a stretcher to leave the Hampden Park pitch during Scotland's 2-1 loss to Wales on Friday after injuring his ankle.

Fletcher has had an initial scan on the problem area which has shown some ligament damage but the full extent of the damage will not be known until another scan has been completed.

Fletcher has scored 11 Premier League goals for the Black Cats this campaign and will be sorely missed if he is unavailable for the remaining eight matches with the Wearside club sitting 15th on the table.
