Sunderland are being linked with Catania striker Maxi Lopez.

Italian sources say no formal transfer talks have been held as yet, but it is understood that the Serie A outfit are prepared to discuss a sale.

Maxi, once of Barcelona and AC Milan, was on Sunderland's radar last year when Paolo di Canio was in charge.
