Sunderland fail with bid for Blackburn striker McCarthy

Sunderland have failed with a £5 million bid for Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy.

The Times says Roy Keane, the Sunderland manager, was keen to add another experienced striker to his squad even before Kenwyne Jones suffered a knee injury, but Paul Ince, his counterpart at Blackburn, is not looking to sell the player.
