Sunderland eyeing big-name transfer targets

With Tottenham's Darren Bent and Celtic's Aiden McGeady both being linked with a move to The Stadium of Light, Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn is not being drawn on the club's transfer targets.

The Sunderland board have given manager Roy Keane their full backing in pursuit of quality summer signings, but Quinn stresses that Keane will not be advertising his plans in the market, for obvious reasons.

Although midfielder McGeady and striker Bent are believed to be priorities for Keane, Quinn remained tight-lipped on the subject when talking to local newspaper The Echo.

"It is not my job to say who we will try to get," he said.

"It's my job to try to get the money together and see if we can unlock players.

"Roy is adamant that he is keeping his cards close to his chest rather than us talking about things (in public) and just disappointing people if they don't come off.
