Sunderland expect to lose Fletcher for month

Sunderland accept Steven Fletcher is out for a month with an ankle injury.

The Mirror says Fletcher is facing at least a month out of Sunderland's fight against relegation.

The Scotland international has damaged ankle ligaments and his recovery will take him out of a big chunk of the run-in, starting with champions-elect Manchester United on Saturday.

Fletcher, who has 11 goals for the Wearsiders following a £12million summer move from Wolves twisted awkwardly in a fall during the 2-1 defeat by Wales.

Subsequent tests on the injury suggest a minimum lay-off until the end of April - potentially leaving the Black Cats out of luck.
