Sunderland, Everton in contact for Tottenham winger Bentley

Sunderland and Everton are in contact with Tottenham for winger David Bentley.

The Mirror says the former Arsenal trainee has had a difficult time at White Hart Lane since joining from Blackburn in 2008 and has struggled for first team action under Harry Redknapp.

This season the 26-year-old has started just one game and with Spurs keen to bring in a new striker, they would be happy to let the midfielder leave.

The only stumbling block is chairman Daniel Levy who is keen to recoup as much of the £15m fee they paid for him as possible - a figure both Sunderland and Everton would baulk at.

One option may be a loan deal, with Spurs understood to be willing to let him go out on loan for a £1m fee.
