Championship side Sunderland have registered a narrow 1-0 win over League One side Bury at Gigg Lane in the first round of League Cup.
In a game of limited opportunities, the Black Cats needed a goal from midfielder George Honeyman to secure their passage into the next round.
The 22-year-old chipped over Bury goalkeeper Joe Murphy to score in the 69th-minute.
The Black Cats have once again been handed an away draw and they will now travel to Carlisle in the second round of the cup.
