Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand says he never wanted to leave West Ham United.

Ferdinand, who followed his brother Rio through West Ham's famed youth academy, still has an obvious soft spot for his former club.

He told the London Evening Standard: "Everyone knows I didn't want to leave West Ham but because of financial circumstances, I was told I had to go. The contract I had been offered was withdrawn so that told me I wasn't wanted here."
