Sunderland defender Diakite open to Fiorentina stay

The agent of Sunderland's Modibo Diakite says his client is open to a permanent move to Fiorentina.

The 27-year old French-Senegalese defender has made nine Serie A starts with La Viola since his loan move from the Black Cats at the end of January and is now waiting to hear if the Italian club want him to remain in Florence.

Diakite's agent Ulisse Savini told Lady Radio: "The player is simply on loan from Sunderland, we'll talk with Fiorentina to know if there is the will to keep him.

"From our side there is maximum availability to stay, Modibo is happy in Florence and in the team.

"In January, there were several requests for him but we chose Fiorentina and we are happy with the choice.

"Now we have to also understand if Sunderland will want to focus on Diakite or if they evaluate the player as they did in January, in which case they would ask for money to let him go."

Diakite joined Sunderland from Lazio last summer but managed just seven Premier League appearances before heading back to Italy to the Stadio Artemi Franchi.
