Sunderland defender Paulo da Silva has seen a return to Mexico fall through.

The Mirror says Da Silva's January move to Mexican side Cruz Azul is off.

A fee could not be agreed for the Paraguay defender, 30, who has featured in just one league game since arriving in 2009.
