Sunderland are ready to pounce for Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi meaning they will allow Kenwyne Jones to leave the club.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is hoping to sign the Brazilian-born Germany international on a £3.5million deal indicating Trinidad & Tobago's Jones will fall down the pecking order.
Kuranyi becomes a free agent in the summer so Sunderland have been attempting to sort out a reduced fee with Schalke and it is expected an agreement will soon be sorted.
That will likely leave Jones out in the cold with the £12million-rated striker attracting interest from Stoke and Birmingham.
