Sunderland have reached an agreement to sign Ola Toivonen from Ligue 1 side Rennes on a permanent transfer, according to a report in Sunderland Echo.
It is reported that the Swedish attacker had been transfer listed by Rennes.
The 29-year-old, who can play in both attacking midfield and as a striker, has previously played under Black Cats manager Dick Advocaat at PSV Eindhoven where he netted 10 goals in 22 outings for the Dutchman.
Toivonen has scored 15 goals in 54 games for Rennes since arriving from PSV in January 2014.
