Sunderland chief Walton admits being caught short for January market

Sunderland chief executive Steve Walton feels he let down chairman Niall Quinn during the January market.

He explained on safc.com: "The other thing is, the transfer window came far too soon for Ricky Sbragia and it came too soon for me, so I feel as if I let Niall Quinn down because I was still doing two jobs during the transfer window.

"So we really need to get ourselves geared up so come the opening of the summer transfer window, we know exactly where we are. Ricky is doing a load of work on that now, so am I - so where know what the strategy is at the end of the season."
