Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne was unimpressed by FA chairman Greg Dyke's call-to-arms speech last week.
The Daily Mail says Byrne made her upset clear to Dyke and revealed she was "absolutely furious" with him naming Sunderland during a speech last week outlining the problems facing the England team.
Byrne, who also sits on the FA council, felt it inappropriate for Sunderland to be singled out, pointing to their English players on the bench and funds they have invested to ensure their academy earned category one status.
Dyke said: "Sunderland told me they were going to write to me."
