Sunderland chairman Ellis Short has welcomed the appointment of new manager Gus Poyet.
The Uruguayan replaces Paolo Di Canio at the Stadium of Light after owner Ellis Short was persuaded to appoint another continental coach.
And the Black Cats chief has hailed the 'passion' of his new boss.
"We analysed a wide range of candidates and believe that Gus's track record, experience, commitment and passion make him the right man to take us forward,' said Short in an official club statement confirming Poyet's arrival.
"We welcome him to Sunderland."
Poyet, who has agreed a two-year contract, is joined by backroom staff Mauricio Taricco and Charlie Oatway.
