Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn won't pressure Preston striker David Nugent into making a decision over his future.
Quinn told the Sunday Sun: "If we were the only ones in for him, it would be a different matter.
"But another offer came in at the last minute and we recognise that David has the right to take his time over such an important decision.
"Roy did that as a player and I did it as a player so that's not a problem at all.
"In fact, we would prefer a player who wouldn't rush into something, that did take the time to make the right choice.
"That way the player has no regrets.
"It's just professionalism, and we respect professionalism at all times."
