Sunderland cash too much for Charlton over Reid deal

Sunderland are set to land Charlton Athletic winger Andy Reid today.

The Hartlepool Mail says Reid had a verbal agreement with Addicks boss Alan Pardew that he would stay with the Londoners until the end of the season and if promotion wasn't gained, he could leave. But the size of Sunderland's £4 million offer has persuaded Charlton to cash in on a player who has undoubted quality but has proven injury-prone in the past.

If the deal does go through, Reid will sign a three-and-a-half year contract.
