Sunderland caretaker Ball pleased with Peterborough triumph

Sunderland interim boss Kevin Ball was thrilled with the way his side performed in their 2-0 victory over Peterborough United on Tuesday night.

Goals from Emanuele Giaccherini and Valentin Roberge guided the Black Cats to a comfortable win in their Capital One Cup third round fixture and the way they went about it was pleasing for Ball who was particularly happy with midfielder Lee Cattermole.

"I thought he put in an excellent performance, along with a lot of others as well," said Ball, who has stepped in for two games after Paolo Di Canio's weekend sacking.

"I just thought it was a really good performance in the sense that they worked very hard, but also played some good football and created a lot of chances as well.

"We also have to give credit to Peterborough because they came up with a decent game-plan - you can see why they are doing very well at the moment and we wish them all the best as well."
