Sunderland captain John O'Shea has welcomed Lee Cattermole's new deal.

Cattermole committed his future to the Black Cats earlier this month, signing a new six-year deal.

O'Shea told safc.com: “It is fantastic news for the club and it is an exciting five years to look forward to.

“You're always a little worried when a player enters his final year because decisions can be made and clubs can come in, but Lee has committed to Sunderland and it is great news for everyone.

“Since I've been at the club he's been fantastic for me, you're always learning from him because of the type of character he is and how he adapts himself around the training ground to keep an eye on everything."
