Sunderland captain Lorik Cana blamed individual errors for their FA Cup defeat to Portsmouth.
John Utaka twice evaded the Black Cats' back line to score, extending the club's winless run away from home.
Darren Bent had given Sunderland the lead only for Pompey to hit back, and Cana couldn't hide his frustration after the game.
"We are disappointed because this was an opportunity to do well in this competition," he told safc.com.
"We started well but afterwards it was difficult. We did well in the first half but it was hard after we conceded a goal just before half time.
"It was good to see the players back who have been out for a while.
"But we made some mistakes and in the end they made a big difference to the result.
"We need to change those mistakes and now we have an important game at Everton - we need to look forward."
