Sunderland are closing on a £5 million deal for Velez Sarsfield wing-back Gino Peruzzi.

The 21-year-old has been a target for Manchester City recently but their pursuit of other targets has allowed Roberto De Fanti to step in for Sunderland and he now hopes to conclude a £5million deal.

Vélez manager, former Newcastle midfielder Christian Bassedas, confirmed that Peruzzi is "close to leaving the club". The player added to Argentinian media that he was in discussions with Sunderland.
