Sunderland boss waiting on Johnson

Martin O'Neill admits that Sunderland are waiting on the fitness of winger Adam Johnson.

The 25-year old joined the Black Cats for £10million from Manchester City last month but has appeared just once in the Premier League, playing a full 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Swansea City on September 1.

A thigh injury kept Johnson out of England's squad for recent World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine, as well as the Black Cats weekend draw with Liverpool, and O'Neill says he may not be back in time for Saturday's trip to West Ham United.

"We were hoping that he would have made the fixture against Liverpool last weekend, but that wasn't the case," he said.

"He is progressing and it's too early to say about this weekend."
