Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says Santiago Vergini is ready to face Manchester City tonight.

The Argie will step in for the suspended Wes Brown.

"I am convinced Santiago is ready," said Poyet.

"He has been waiting for his chance and he won't let us down although I am sure he is surprised it has come around.

"But the way they play, it is easier for defenders to adapt. He is good in the air and sees danger early."
