Sunderland boss Gus Poyet insists Jack Rodwell was not dropped for their draw with West Bromwich Albion on the weekend.
Poyet explained that Rodwell was omitted from Saturday's 18-man match-day squad after injuring a calf.
He said: "He hurt his calf in training on Friday and pushed himself through the session. It didn't work."
