Sunderland boss Poyet has full backing of Short

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says he has the full support of chairman Ellis Short.

He held a meeting with Short this week following a terrible run in which the club has mustered only one point - a home draw to Crystal Palace - since a victory over Newcastle at St James' Park on February 1.

Poyet said: "I spoke to the owner and he is totally supportive. He made the decision to appoint me and he will stand by it to the end. The conversation we had was very natural, very straightforward, nothing more than the situation and why we decided to be together, nothing else.

"I want to be in the job because I'm doing well, not because I'm getting paid to tell people what they want to hear and I'll keep trying until the end, until the last goal of the last game. Then we will talk about everything. At the moment there is no time to analyse everything."
