Sunderland boss Poyet baffled by Cup demands

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says he'd take Premier League safety over Capital One Cup glory.

Sunderland remain in the bottom three and Poyet insists he assumed Premier League survival was the number one priority until he discovered how important cup glory is on Wearside.

He said: "Survival is the priority, but don't tell the people in Sunderland.

"I thought it was just down to the manager to stay in the Premier League - apparently it is more important for a manager to win a cup in Sunderland because it makes you more famous. I am learning."
