Sunderland boss Gus Poyet would understand if they were docked points over the Ji Dong-won controversy.

Sunderland fielded Ji earlier this season despite the South Korean not being registered.

Poyet accepts the rules are ambiguous and that's the reason Sunderland have escaped being docked points.

"The rules should be clear," he said. "I'm not saying Sunderland should (lose points) but I would understand."
