Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is pushing to sign permanently on-loan Tottenham wing-back Danny Rose.
Rose has been on fire for the Mackems and boss O'Neill now wants to make the move permanent.
He said: "When it was first discussed with Tottenham about taking him, they were very pleased. He wanted to come, he's a Doncaster lad.
"He wanted to do anything to get out as he felt he was not going to play.
"In truth with Benoit Assou-Ekotto coming back he might not get into their side. They are pretty strong and it's not only beneficial for the lad and for us but at the minute, it's beneficial for Tottenham.
"He's enjoying it immensely here and he wants to stay."
